“I’d like to start my own business- Where can I get help?” Arslan Waheed, Web Development.

Starting your own business can seem daunting at first as there are many things to consider and understand. However, at Manchester Metropolitan University there are some amazing opportunities available to students to get you started.

Join the Manchester Met Student Enterprise Society to meet other enterprising students and graduates, and to keep up to date with competitors, business simulations and funding streams for students and graduates interested in starting their own business.

The university offers a ‘Working for Yourself Careers Workshop’ which is an interactive workshop that explores the motivation, skills and networks you might need in order to be successful and provides tips in putting together your business plan. These are great opportunities to develop your understanding and get useful tips when starting.

Innospace is Manchester Met’s business start-up incubator offering office space, start up support and mentoring. This is a great chance to focus on developing your business and meet your clients, a Manchester postal address, and full use of all the office facilities which you will need in your new business. One of the great points with working with Innospace is that you can meet other entrepreneurs in a similar position and work your way up.

If you require more information it would be beneficial to read our ‘Working for Yourself’ guide for useful information and resources and top tips for developing your enterprising skills. You can find other useful reference books in the Employability Hub, Business School.

We advertise a wide range of both external and internal events on My Career Hub. Some of these are specifically designed to help you to start your own business so it’s worth checking My Career Hub on a regular basis.

If you would like to discuss any of the above in more detail then you can book an appointment with a Careers Consultant by phoning 0161 247 3483 or by dropping into the Employability Hub between Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

Good luck and best wishes,

The Careers and Employability Team
