Many employers across all sectors are now using video interviews during the recruitment process so it is essential that you understand how they work and how to prepare!

Arcadia Group is the UK’s largest privately owned fashion retailer, with seven major high street brands: Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Topshop, Topman and Wallis. They use video interviews extensively when recruiting for graduate roles. Hannah Bore from the Future Talent Team at Arcadia, shares their tips for a successful video interview.

Arcadia are now using video interviews instead of the traditional telephone interview. We see them as a great opportunity to really demonstrate why you’re the ideal candidate and bring your skills and attributes to life. They aren’t as nerve-wracking as they might appear. Before taking your first video interview, follow our tips and make sure you are prepared for success!

1. Prepare as you would for a face-to-face interview – think about why you want to work for the company you have applied for and why you want to do that role.

2. Consider your surroundings –make sure you are in a quiet space with a tidy and appropriate background. The lighting should also be clear so that the assessor(s) can see you properly.

3. Dress the part – this is an interview so make sure you wear something appropriate for the role you have applied for.

4. Look into the camera – think of the camera as a person in a face-to-face interview, maintain eye contact and avoid looking at the floor or around the room.

5. Speak clearly and confidently – consider your answers and don’t rush ensuring you give full answers for each question.

6. Most importantly, relax and be yourself – this is your chance to really show the employer your personality!

Arcadia offer graduate roles in Buying, Merchandising, Digital and Finance with the majority of roles open to graduates from all discipline. Find out more about working for Arcadia, the roles available and how to apply here.
